In a matter of days, the ole homestead will be drastically more quiet. Big son heads back to college on Sunday and our household dynamic will move from active to calm. I know the oldest is usually torn when he leaves. He and his younger brothers adore each other. The smalls especially look up to the bigs. With both bigs soon to be gone, we’ll have a day or two of an occasional small meltdown; namely with our 10 year old.
He so identifies with his older brother. So does the youngest, but not to the degree of the 10 year old. So, we’re slowly transitioning. My wife and I will need to get used to having half our children one step closer to adulthood. That means one step closer to moving out, permanently. I don’t know how my parents dealt with when we left the house. It’s pretty brutal. Yeah, they can visit, but it’s not the same. The joys of being all “growed” up!
