I’m torn today. Do these or don’t these photos fit in to the cliché category? Yes and no. They are different enough, but they also have a cliché feel to them. But I think they fit into the entire concept of why my son and I started this “experiment.” Photographically, these are both fairly blah pictures. Throw them into the Instagram photo program and they become somewhat interesting. I actually like both photos quite a bit.
I guess that’s my issue with Instagram. They fool people into thinking they are really good photographers because the filter effects are pretty interesting. When in fact, a large majority of the work that people post on the Instagram feeds is pure and utter garbage. That includes some of the photos that I’ve taken and posted here. However, it’s some really pretty garbage.
On the flip side, some of the photos are also pretty ok. That’s not a ringing endorsement, but that’s as good as it gets with me. Remember, my love affair with photography doesn’t exist. It’s more like a “sometimes like affair.” But I’m having a ton of fun doing this and it’s forcing me to look at things with a more photographic vision, which I haven’t done since I left newspapers in 2005.
